Narrative Breakdown is an series of deconstruction, analysis, and reaction to the narrative side of the video games I play. I don’t foresee a specific format or focus for each piece. Some might touch on themes, others the story beats themselves, others will be about how the game leverages the medium to tell its story.
Writing in games is of great interest to me because it’s a strange sort of writing, a mix of established methods within a still evolving entertainment medium. We often see people decrying one game for terrible writing and hailing another for brilliant writing, yet there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of standards as to which is which aside from ‘I know it when I see it.’
